Unlike western weddings, the bridal colour in Chinese wedding tradition is red – hence why before the ceremony the gifts are given in red baskets.
Red is the colour of the day – the house, gifts, decoration will all be as red as possible as the colour itself represents love, joy and prosperity – hopefully three of the main products of a Chinese wedding day!
But the lucky bride actually gets three Chinese wedding dresses for her ceremony – a white one to be married in, the traditional red dress for the banquet afterwards, and the “going away” dress for when she leaves.
