Top 2013 Date Ideas in London for Newlyweds

You somehow managed to pull off the wedding of your dreams and you are now happily settling down into married life. Now what? Think of this as the start of your journey with many more adventures to come. Date nights are a great way to have some fun, get you out of the house and reconnect at the end of a busy week. With so much to see and do, date ideas in London are plentiful, with many free events for you to enjoy. Here are a few things to look out for in the last six months of 2013.

A secret garden

If you want to escape the bustle of London and have a picnic in a secluded spot, visit Camley Street Natural Park, an idyllic green patch nestled into the heart of the city. The garden, which is a mere stones-throw away from the shops in Kings Cross, includes meadows, established trees, ponds teaming with wildlife and quaint little walks.

Notting Hill Carnival

This popular annual festival is great for a lively date; jam packed with entertainment, culture and a party atmosphere. Every August bank holiday weekend, West London transforms into a colourful and vibrant outdoor festival complete with Caribbean steel bands, food stalls, floats, dancers and music. Head down on the Monday to see the main parade.

Up in the sky

Where better to view the great city than from your very own helicopter? Live the high life this year with one of London’s many helicopter tours and get a bird’s eye view of some of the capital’s most iconic buildings including Buckingham Palace, the London Eye and St Pauls Cathedral. The tours, which usually last around 40 minutes, are a perfect pre-dinner treat.

‘Murray Mound’

The Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships is one of the UK’s favourite sporting events and the crowning glory of London’s summer sporting calendar. Many people without tickets in the capital like to wander up to Aorangi Terrace, better known as ‘Murray Mound’ or ‘Henman Hill’ to watch the world’s longest running tennis championship from a big screen and savour the atmosphere and ice-cream.

An unusual dining experience

On Clerkenwell Green lies Dans le Noir? - a restaurant with a twist. You certainly won’t be stuck for conversation at this eatery as you plunge into a sensory experience. All meals from a secret menu are served in the dark with the help of their blind waiting staff. Without your sense of sight, your taste buds and nose will ignite as you eat the Dans’ organic ingredients. Make sure to tell the staff about any allergies you may have.

Open air cinema

Get off the sofa and head down to Somerset House this August for a fortnight of nightly films screened in its majestic 18th century courtyard. Everything from comedy and romance to thrillers and musicals will be featured in the Film4 Summer Screen line up including Guys and Dolls, Carrie and The Loved One. Make sure you keep checking the Somerset House website for dates and times to secure an early spot.
