Top Wedding Trends in 2013

Just like the worlds of beauty and fashion, weddings take on new trends every year. Everything from different themes, colours, planning, dresses and cakes can be popular one year and ditched the next. So if you are looking for some inspiration for your big day, here are some wedding trends which are lighting up 2013.

Prints are a big fashion trend this year and are predicted to integrate into wedding themes in 2013. Prints can add a tasteful unifying dimension to the whole day which ties together the different parts of the whole event. Big print themes in fashion this year are black and white stripes, houdstooth and checkers, paisley and traditional tweeds. Once you have chosen your pattern, look for little details such as pocket handkerchiefs for groomsmen, table settings, trimmings and flowers with the same colour theme. The trick is to avoid using too much of the print as this can look gaudy and over the top. In other words, select finishing touches rather than whole tablecloths.

Grand sophistication

This year marks a return to classic, decadent sophistication with chandeliers, long flowing ball gowns and crystal. Give your elegant day a touch of vintage glamour with a focus on lace details from the wedding dress to the cake and even as a finishing touch to invitations. Many wedding designers have featured lace in their spring collections from contrasting laces to lace sleeves and accents. Many celebs like using the timeless material for their weddings such as Kate Middleton and can be worn with an old Hollywood hairstyle for optimum elegance.

Nicely neutral

Early predictions in the year stated that neutral tones will be big in 2013 with blush, taupe, off-whites and light greys being key wedding colours this year. You can pick a stronger colour amongst the muted tones to add splashes of colour such as bright flowers and place settings. Place candles around the room to bring extra warmth and glow to neutral tones. Garlands have also become a 2013 trend to hang from chandeliers or strung across tables to add more colour and fun.

As more people are becoming more aware of the environment, so too are brides, which is reflected this year. Some good ways for a greener wedding is to use recycled paper for your invitations, and look for decorations which can be easily recycled – steer clear of plastic! Choose organic, locally grown produce when putting together a menu and buy flowers from a local florist which have been grown in the UK.

Technology such as wedding videos has also been predicted to emerge in more weddings this year. Live-streaming of weddings has gained popularity as more couples are now having weddings abroad. Distant relatives who cannot make the wedding because of financial and time difficulties can also watch a wedding with ease online or played back via an online file. Many brides do not think that this is an option but more planners are incorporating these aspects into weddings due to increasing demand.
