UK Wedding Receptions

UK Wedding receptions are quite well-to-do and reserved fares, though it obviously depends on the family. In general the reception will be a chance to invite all those who might not have fitted in the church, plus those that did, during which there will be a series of speeches and thanks to be made. The cake is generally a large one with several layers, which is cut by the couple together before being shared out amongst the guests. File under “eccentric and hilarious UK wedding traditions” this brilliant nugget: Bridesmaids made a mess of their beds and upset their mothers for many years by taking their piece of the wedding cake and sleeping on it in the hope they might dream of their future husband. Whether this worked was a matter for debate, but there was always the option of a midnight snack if all else failed.
